The virtue of supplication and remembrance from the Qur’an and Sunnah

Before mentioning my experience with supplicating to my Lord, I have been touched by harm, and You are the Most Merciful of those who are merciful. It is important for a Muslim to know the virtue of remembrance and supplication in Islam from the Qur’an and Sunnah, and they are among the most rewarding acts of worship and the easiest with effort and effort. God Almighty has mentioned those who remember and supplicate with great remembrance and praise. He said God Almighty in His decisive revelation: {Those who have believed and whose hearts are at rest in the remembrance of God. Indeed, in the remembrance of God are hearts reassured}.[1] He has granted the supplicants and those who remember a great reward and a great reward. It was reported from the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, that he said: “God Almighty says: I am as my servant thinks of me, and I am with him when he remembers me. If he mentions me to himself, I remember him to myself, and if he mentions me in public, I remember him.” In a group they are better than them.”[2] Supplication and remembrance are a reason for the servant to be in the company of God Almighty.[3]

My experience with praying to my Lord is that harm has touched me

It was reported on the authority of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, that he said: “Call to your Lord, to whom, if harm touches you, you call to Him, He will remove it from you, and to whom, if you go astray in a barren land, then you call to Him, He will respond to you, and to Him, if a year befalls you, then you call upon Him, He will bring forth growth for you.”[4] And from what was mentioned in the Israelites: “Can someone else hope for adversity, and adversity is in my hand, while I am the Ever-Living, the Eternal, and someone else hopes for me and knocks on his door with wheels, and in my hand are the keys to the safes, and my door is open when I pray.” Who is the one who begged me for something great and I cut it off? Who is the one who knocked on my door but I did not open it for him? I am the utmost hope. How can hopes be cut off without me? I am stingy, so my servant makes me stingy? Isn’t this world, the hereafter, generosity, and grace all mine?” A Muslim woman says that my experience with praying to my Lord that harm has touched me is that I was living a happy life with my husband and children, but symptoms of mental and physical illness appeared. I felt anxious, sad, and depressed for no reason, my body became weak and my color turned pale, and I began the journey of treatment in hospitals and sanatoriums. My condition was getting worse until I lost hope and the situation reached the point where I thought about committing suicide, God forbid, but one of the women came and advised me to pray to our master Ayoub, so I repeated it and continued to do it, and only a few days passed and signs of recovery appeared on me, so Glory be to God the Healer. My experience with praying to my Lord is that I am tempted to get married

Prayer, as the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, mentioned, is beneficial in all matters, even in marriage, as one of the girls narrates her experience with the supplication of my Lord, verily, harm has touched me for marriage, as she says that she had suffered psychologically due to her not getting married and the marriage of her other companions and friends, and even her younger sisters. Until people began to look at her with pity for not getting married, she was negatively affected and became very sad, but her father advised her to repeat the supplication of the Prophet Ayoub, peace be upon him, and advised her to continue doing it, so she did and continued with it, and she had barely completed her first year after persevering in this supplication except that God blessed her with a young Muslim man. He is righteous, pious, and successful in his life, and she is now about to marry him, praise be to God.

My experience with praying to my Lord is that harm has touched me to sadness

Human nature fluctuates between health and illness, between happiness and sadness, between prosperity and misery, and the happy one is the one who is grateful for blessings, is patient in the face of calamity, and forgives sins. If a person is prone to sadness, he must turn to the Almighty One with supplication, and the following is my experience with the supplication of the Prophet of God, Job, peace be upon him, for sadness. The difficult circumstances that the country went through forced me to leave it early in my life. I moved away from my family, from my home, from my brothers, and my parents. I moved away from everything I was attached to and loved, and anguish, delusion, and sadness descended upon my heart that only God knows. However, through my research and browsing, For books, I read the story of a supplication to my Lord, “Indeed, harm has befallen me, and You are the Most Merciful of those who are merciful,” so I repeated it, repeated it a lot, and continued it, until God opened my chest, removed my worry, and replaced my sadness with joy and pleasure, and made my life carefree and happy with His grace. Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds. See also: My experience with the Sustenance Prayer

The ruling on supplicating to my Lord that harm has touched me

It is permissible for a Muslim to pray to God Almighty whatever supplication he wishes, in a way that suits his condition and circumstances. God Almighty has revealed in the Holy Qur’an many of the supplications that the Prophets, may God’s prayers and peace be upon them, prayed for, including the supplication of Job, peace be upon him, “My Lord! Indeed, adversity has touched me,” as it is one of the good supplications. Through which supplication is answered, God Almighty willing, and every sick person in need who has been touched by harm and harmed by evil should pray with this supplication. As for someone who enjoys health and blessings around him, it is not desirable for him to supplicate in this way. Rather, it is better to supplicate with something that includes praise to God Almighty and praise and thanks to Him for His blessings. Many, and God knows best.[5]

Stories about praying to my Lord that harm has touched me

Many Muslims search for stories and experiences with some supplications and hadiths, as some who have tried them share their experiences with others. God Almighty rewards goodness and bestows His blessings on those who call upon Him and supplicate to Him. Far be it from Him that the supplicant should be rejected in disappointment. We will present in the following two stories and experiences with the supplication of my Lord, “Indeed, harm has touched me.”

First story

One of the young women says: I am a girl at the beginning of my youth, having reached the age of twenty-four. Four years ago, I suffered paralysis in the lower limbs, as a result of an accident I had while on my way to my university, where I was involved in a tragic car accident, which led to a spinal injury, and my legs stopped. I completely stopped working. I fell into severe depression, so I abstained from eating, drinking, and sitting with family and friends. I was sitting alone in my room and crying hard. One day, my big brother came back from traveling, and I was very attached to him. He saw the state I had reached after the accident. He tried a lot to get me out. From my depression, but it did not work. He remembered that I love to read and study, so he bought me several books, including the story of God’s Prophet Job, peace be upon him. I came out of my isolation a little and started reading, and I read the story of Job, peace be upon him, and what he suffered and how he was patient with the test that God Almighty tested him with, so I memorized his prayers. My Lord, I have been afflicted with harm, and You are the Most Merciful of those who are merciful. I cried hard as I read his story, and I feel that my condition is somewhat similar to his condition. I began to pray every night for the supplication of Job, peace be upon him. I returned to God and drew closer to Him through prayer, remembrance, and supplication. I also began physical therapy, and after three years of supplication and treatment. God Almighty healed me and restored my health, and now I walk as before, thanks to God Almighty’s grace and mercy.

The second story

One of the Muslim men who shared his story with this supplication said: One year after I got married, I discovered that I could not have children, so my wife and I were very sad, and I concealed this sadness in my heart and did not reveal it and broadcast it except to God Almighty. My wife felt my sadness and eased the distress of the matter for me with her tender words, may God reward her. May God Almighty bless me, and one day while I was reading the Qur’an, I came across the verse that contains Job’s supplication, “My Lord, I have been touched by harm, and You are the Most Merciful of those who are merciful.” So I cried and continued to repeat it, hoping that God Almighty would have mercy on me from this affliction. I began to pray to God Almighty a lot, and I would save him and hope for him, and I would repeat this prayer often, and I continued to pray. This situation lasted for many months, and God honored me and showered me with His kindness and generosity. After examinations and treatment, I was healed, praise be to God, from this affliction. God Almighty blessed me with twin children, a male and a female. Praise be to God in any case, so do not despair of the mercy of God Almighty. The story of the Prophet of God, Job, with a supplication to my Lord, “Indeed, harm has befallen me.”

The most afflicted people are the prophets. God Almighty used to test them with the most severe trials and afflictions, and He used to make them a high example of patience and hope. His Prophet Job, peace be upon him, after his glory and wealth, was afflicted with loss, poverty, people’s dependence on him, and the loss of health and well-being. He had no functioning of his organs except his heart and his tongue. Who did not stop worshiping God Almighty or remembering Him and supplicating to Him, and he remained in this state for eighteen years, until God Almighty guided him to supplicate with a broken soul and a heart burdened with worries and pains, by saying: {Indeed, adversity has befallen me, and You are the Most Merciful of the Merciful}.[6] So God Almighty healed him after this supplication by causing water to spring from the place of his feet, so he bathed in it and drank, and God Almighty enriched him from His bounty and provided him with sons and daughters, and God knows best.[7]
